In Memory of Lammert Huizenga

September 29, 1944 to July 24, 2026

Lammert Huizenga was peacefully welcomed into the loving arms of his Saviour and Lord on the evening of July 24th at Brampton Civic Hospital. He lived a beautiful life of 81 years.

Born in Groningen, Netherlands to Wille Jan and Diet Huizenga, Lammert was the oldest of four children. He immigrated to Canada with his family in 1953 at the age of eight. He attended Trent University, Lakeshore Teacher’s College, and the University of Guelph, where he studied horticulture.

Lammert attended Second CRC in Rexdale where he met his lovely wife Mary. They got married on March 14, 1969 and raised a beautiful family of five children together.

He was a beloved husband of Mary Huizenga for 57 years. Loving father and Opa to Karin and Paul Haddad (Ryan, Danielle (Tavlin), Brendan), Linda and Derrick Kloosterhof (Joshua, Kayla (Konnor), Mariah, Jacob), Michael and Janessa Huizenga (Emma, Claire, Lauren), Jeanette and Kevin Luimes (Isabel, Olivia, Evangeline, Adelaide), Christy and Jay Hayashi (Carter, Max, Kaylee, Lily) and a Great Opa to Koever and Vienna.

Lammert was a dear older brother to Dia and Gerry terHaar, Siep and Tina Huizenga, and the late Willy Huizenga. Brother-in-law to the late Wilma and late Taede deVries, late Evelyn and George Vink, Ina and late Otto Jeeninga, late Peter VanManen, late Hans and Sadie VanManen, late John and Theresa VanManen, and Ted VanManen.

Lammert was a quiet, gentle, and humble man. He was someone who never complained and he faced life’s joys and challenges with a quiet strength. His deep trust in the Lord was the foundation of his life and it truly showed through his kindness and love towards his family and friends. He was a devoted family man and one of his greatest joys was spending time with his loved ones. His compassionate heart and concern for others led him to serve as an elder in Immanuel CRC for many years.

Lammert found great joy in God’s creation. He loved taking walks and spending time outdoors. He always appreciated the beauty and peace in nature. His love for nature was evident throughout his life. During his seven years as a teacher at Timothy Christian School in Etobicoke, he encouraged his students to see the beauty of God’s creation. Later, as a landscaper, he continued to care for God’s world that he loved so deeply. Music was another of Lammert’s passions. He loved listening to classical music and found joy in playing the organ at home and in church services. We loved how he used his gift to glorify the Lord. He was also known for his dry sense of humour and was always ready to give a well-timed remark that made everyone smile. Even in his later years with dementia, Lammert’s gentle spirit never faded. He remained a calm, kind, and beautiful soul.

Though he will be deeply missed, we rejoice in knowing that because of his faith in Jesus Christ, he is now at peace in the presence of his Saviour. His life reminds us of the hope found in God’s promise that nothing “will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”~Romans 8:39b

Visitation: Thursday, July 30, 5:00pm-7:00pm at Ward Funeral Home, Brampton (52 Main St. S.).

Celebration of Life: Friday, July 31, 1:30pm at Heritage Fellowship CRC, Covenant Tower, Holland Christian Homes (7900 McLaughlin Rd. S.), with a reception to follow at Horizon Hall. The service will be livestreamed on the Heritage Fellowship CRC YouTube channel beginning at 1:15pm.
