Joyce Helen Skelton

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of Joyce Helen Skelton (nee Cruise) on October 8, 2023 at West Park Long Term Care. Joyce was pre-deceased by her parents Bob and Queenie Cruise, her brother Bob Cruise (Ruth), her husband Wally Rombough and their three children Douglas, Catherine and John and then by her husband Harry Skelton. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Robyn and her grandchildren Jeffrey, Brydon and Dana, her sister and brother-in-law Barb and Bob Putnam, and their family. Joyce was like a second mother to all the Putnam clan - Lori Lee, Donald and Marnie, Emily (Brian) Bonfield and Norah, Cassidy Putnam, Olivia Lee and Jenna Lee. She was also loved by her nephews Scott and Brydon Cruise, niece Karen Campbell and their families.

Joyce was born in 1927 in Almonte, Ontario and moved to Forest Hill in 1939 and then to Weston in 1945 where she remained for the rest of her life. She was a secretary to the Weston Town Clerk and then a secretary in North York schools and at the Board Office.

Wherever she went, Joyce made instant friends and despite the tragedies in her life, she emerged with a faith and strength that were inspiration to all. Her joie de vivre was undaunted. She was an amazing camper, but in later years, after Harry's retirement from Ontario Hydro, they became world travelers.

When Harry passed away in 2013, Joyce was in the hospital and there was no Memorial Service.

On November 18, 2023 at 11:00a.m., there will be a Celebration of Life for BOTH Joyce and Harry at Central United Church, 1 King Street, York, followed by a reception at CKSR next door. They had been active and valued members of both Central and CKSR.

In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
