With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Jose Sebastiao Melo, who passed away unexpectedly on June 30, 2026, at the age of 73.
Born in São Miguel, Açores, Portugal, Jose later made Brampton, Ontario his home, where he built a life rooted in hard work, dedication, and an unwavering love for his family.
Jose was the beloved husband of Maria Lurdes Melo and a proud father to Michael Melo (Melina) and Steven Melo (Diane). He was an adoring grandfather to Adrian, Audrina, Brayden, Aaliyah, Nathan, and Iris, each of whom brought him immeasurable pride and joy.
Before immigrating to Canada, Jose proudly served in the Portuguese Army in Africa. He was also an exceptional soccer player whose love for the game stayed with him throughout his life, especially in his unwavering support of the Portugal National Team. A lifelong fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, he celebrated every victory with hope and remained loyal through every season.
Jose worked for many years as a carpenter and gifted woodworker. Whether building with his hands or tending to his beloved vegetable garden, he found happiness in creating and nurturing.
Those who knew Jose will remember him for his kindness, warm sense of humor, strong work ethic, and quiet generosity. Above all else, he was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a family man whose greatest joy came from being surrounded by those he loved.
Though our hearts are broken by his sudden passing, we take comfort in the memories he leaves behind and the values he instilled in all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation at Ward Funeral Home, Brampton, on Wednesday, July 8, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00–9:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Brampton, on Thursday, July 9, at 9:30 a.m., followed by interment at Assumption Cemetery.
