It is with broken hearts that we announce that on June 2, 2026, Jorgina Cabral Amaral (née Arruda), in her 104th year, passed away peacefully at Brampton Civic Hospital. Jorgina spent the last nine months of her life at Extendicare Brampton, and the family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff for their compassionate care and kindness.

Jorgina was predeceased by her beloved husband Jose (†), with whom she shared 55 years of marriage, and by four of her children—Joao de Deus (†) (Isaltina (†)), Jose Caetano (†) (Cecilia), Maria Natalia (†), and Emanuel (†) (Gabriella). She is lovingly remembered by her children Helena (Manuel (†), Carlos (Zelia), Jorge (Sylvie), Eddie and Gabriela Arruda, who will forever cherish her memory.

Jorgina was also a proud grandmother to 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Jorgina lived a full and devoted life. She was born on December 23, 1921, in Ribeirinha, Sao Miguel, Azores. She emigrated to Canada in 1977 and loved making her home in Toronto, London, and Brampton. She had a passion for preparing large meals for family gatherings and was also very talented at crocheting, spending her later years making beautiful blankets. Another of her joys was visiting her daughter’s cottage in Collingwood, where she loved to enjoy oysters, bread and cheese, with a glass of red wine.

Jorgina will be deeply missed by her family and friends, and her memory will be cherished always. May her soul rest in peace.
