John (Jan) Lutgendorff died peacefully on February 8, 2016 at the age of 84, at his home in Brampton, Ontario. He was born in 1931 in the town of Laren, The Netherlands, to Lourens and Hiltje. At age 19 he immigrated to Canada where he worked as an orderly in a hospital, attended Calvin College and earned a Teacher’s Certificate at Western (UWO). In 1959 John married Jantina (Tineke) Vrieling and moved to Brampton where they raised their children Larry and Marilyn. He taught at Central Peel and J.A. Turner secondary schools teaching History, English and Geography. He loved to travel and organized trips to England, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Italy, Greece, Russia, and many other places in Europe. He helped celebrate the liberation of his home country by organizing choir tours. After retirement he worked for the Bible League. As a faithful member of Crosspoint (2nd) Christian Reformed Church he served on many committees and boards. John lived out his faith in service to many Christian organizations including: John Knox Christian School, Toronto District Christian HS, Bibles for Missions thrift store, Shalem, and Holland Christian Homes. He loved history, pipe organs and travelling and combined these loves on a trip to the Netherlands with his family and grandchildren, John and Jennifer.

Visitation at Ward Funeral Home, 52 Main St. South, Brampton, Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service to be held at Crosspoint Christian Reformed Church, 444 Steeles Avenue West, on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 1:00 pm. Committal service to follow at Meadowvale cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to John Knox Christian School, Brampton.
