John (Jack) Flaxman

We sadly announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Father,
Grandfather & Great-grandfather, John (Jack) Flaxman. After a brief illness, surrounded by his family in his finals days, he died peacefully at the McNally House Hospice in Grimsby, Ontario on Tuesday, April 9th 2013 in his 91st year.
He will be sincerely missed by his dear wife Susan and her daughter Cathy Rice of Vancouver, B.C. and his children Christine Marshall (Frank) of Bala, Ontario, Sheryl Gillis (Stan) of Queensville, Ontario, Robert Flaxman (Carol) of Guilford, England and Grandchildren John, Jeffrey, Jesse, David, Kevin, Edward, Andrew and Great-grandchildren Francis, Haden and Alexis.
Jack was born in Toronto on December 26, 1921, the oldest of 8 children. In his early 20’s he served overseas in World War II with the Canadian Armed Forces Infantry where, in England he met his first wife Ellen Ivy Flaxman, who predeceased him.
He also worked at General Electric and Bell & Howell during his career. He loved the outdoors, fishing and building, but he was most known for his passionate pursuit of the Arts. His creative talent was endless and his energy for life was boundless. He was the inspiration for his daughter Christine in her artistic endeavours.
We are proud of his accomplishments, especially in his artistry. His “Coach & Four” sculpture is prominently displayed in the Royal Collection of Prince Phillip of England. His original paintings depicting his experiences in World War II are proudly displayed at the Juno Beach Memorial in Normandy, France, the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa and the Military Forces Base Borden, Ontario.
The funeral service will take place on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 11:30 am at Wards Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Rd., Weston, Ontario M9N 1X7. Internment will be at Beechwood Cemetery, 7241 Jane St., Concord, Ontario L4K 1A7
