Joan M. Thomson

Joan M Thomson (nee Hardy) age 87, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025 in Etobicoke General Hospital. Born on January 1, 1938 in Toronto, Ontario. Joan lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to her family, her work and retirement. Joan had many friendships she cultivated along the way. 

Joan retired at the age of 64 after her devoted 24 years of service as a secretary at the workplace Safety and Insurance board (WSIB) where her professionalism and warm demeanour left a lasting impression on colleagues and clients alike. Her career reflected her strong work ethic and commitment to helping others. Joan’s retirement was blissfull and full of life. 

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Harold “Sonny” with whom she shared many cherished years. Joan also mourn the loss of her cousin Beverly Carrine and her parents, Cliff and Maggie Hardy. 

Joan is lovingly remembered by her daughter Cindy Jo Bruce; grandchildren Robert Bruce (Sonia) and Brandy-Jo Moore, (Tom), missed by great -grandchildren Mykila, Teaghen, Kaiden, and Avery, also missed by Great great grandchild Isla, her legacy lives on through them and the many lives she touched with her kindness.

 A woman of many interests Joan found joy in folk art painting and many trips to the casino. She enjoyed sharing meals with close friends and neighbours during afternoon lunch-ins at Mc Donald’s, Joan had a passion for travel that took her to places near and far. Joan was known for her generosity, kindness and friendly nature. With a smile Joan was a true social butterfly, always engaging, but never seeking drama. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff at Humber Valley Terrace care facility for their compassionate care during Joan’s stay. 

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. The memorial and funeral service will be held on September 7, 2025 from 12 PM -2 PM with refreshments to follow all at Ward‘s funeral home, 2035 Weston Rd.
