In Loving Memory of Jean Rebecca Duffy (nee Moore)
Born on December 31, 1939 in East Kilbride, Scotland
(a Hogmanay baby!)
It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Jean Rebecca Duffy who passed away peacefully at Bethell Hospice in Inglewood, on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 in her 86th year.
Jean lived a remarkable life marked by love, resilience, kindness and devotion to her family and community.
This East Kilbride wee lassie captured the heart of Jim Duffy and in September of 1961 they were married. Together they raised 5 children, and in December of 1974 they moved their entire family from Bonnie Scotland to Canada.
For 65 years Jim and Jean spent the majority of their lives in Brampton with the exception of a brief spell at Sandy Cove Acres in Innisfil. Warm friendships and many memories were made wherever Jean made her home! Jean dedicated many years of service as the Activities Coordinator at Tullamore Nursing Home in Brampton and loved every moment giving her time, love and musical talents to the residents every day. After retiring from Tullamore she gave more of herself as a volunteer with the Alzheimer's Society of Peel and at Nora’s House.
Jean will be dearly missed by her beloved husband Jim and her cherished children Patricia (Ben), Paul (deceased) (Linda), Stephen, Jacqueline (Cory) and Tracey. She was a loving nana to her grandchildren Jennifer (Jamie), Scott, Corey (Denise), Dylan, Laurie-Ann, Joshua and Matthew. In August of 2025 she inherited the title NanaG when blessed with her first great grandson Austin. Jean will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her nieces and nephews, other family members both in Canada and Scotland and her friends.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Dhaliwall and the palliative care team at Brampton Civic Hospital. We especially want to express our deepest appreciation and gratitude to the staff at Bethel Hospice in Inglewood for the compassion and care they provided to our mum and family in the last days of her life.
Family and friends will be received at Ward Funeral Home, 52 Main Street South, Brampton, on Thursday, October 22, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Mary’s Church, 66 Main St. S. Brampton at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Assumption Cemetery, 6933 Tomken Road, Mississauga.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bethell Hospice, Inglewood (Bethell Hospice) and/or Alzheimer’s Society of Peel.
