Margaret Jane Hutton (nee: Dennison)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Jane Hutton on April 28, 2025. Jane was born in Toronto on March 19, 1942 to Gordon and Margaret Dennison. She graduated from the University of Toronto in 1965 with a Diploma in Physiotherapy. While teaching skiing at High Park Ski Club, she met William Hutton. Together they made a home for 56 years at Hutton Orchards in Brampton where they raised Gordon (Penny) and Alice (Scott) and tended many crops of apples. She was constantly amazed by what her children accomplished and she became a very proud grandmother of Sylvie Woodjina and Addison Viola.
She loved walking along the Humber River as a young girl and hoped that nature and beauty would be part of her life. She got her wish many times over; from time spent at family cottages and in the myriad of gardens she cultivated on the farm, nature and beauty were a constant presence in her life. She never hesitated to stop and admire a rare bird at the backyard feeder or to marvel at the interesting way a piece of wood twisted.
She also made the nature and beauty in her life tangible through her art. Raised in an artistic family that nurtured her creative impulses, Jane further honed her skills at Central Technical School in Toronto. Although she did not follow her father into the world of professional art, throughout her life she continued to create art and inspire others to do the same. She was accomplished in a wide variety of media and styles, producing drawings, paintings, pottery, and sculpture. She found inspiration all around her, it was at The Cottage in Georgetown and the Credit Valley Artisans where she found a welcoming artistic community that helped bring some of her best work to fruition.
It is, however, her passion and dedication to volunteering and helping others for which she will be most fondly remembered. Over the course of her life, Jane devoted a lot of her time helping others. She was an active member of Christ Church, a Girl Guide leader and a volunteer with many other organizations. She learned sign language to support communication with those she volunteered with. At various times she was both a ski instructor and a fitness instructor and is remembered by her friends as always up for a challenge of skiing trip, paddle or a good swim, even as her body was attempting to place limitations on her ambitions.
Her life was made fuller with a large and close circle of extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Donald Dennison. She is lovingly remembered by her immediate family; in-laws, Peter (Lorraine) Hutton, Joyce Hutton and Gail Dennison as well as her cousins, nieces and nephews. Jane was part of several long lasting bridge groups who in between a good hand of cards, shared the joys and sorrows of raising family and growing older.
She will be sorely missed.
Visitation will be Sun May 4th at Brampton Ward Funeral Home from 2 to 4. Funeral services will be Mon May 5th at 11 at Christ Church Brampton with a reception at Alderlea.
