Jan Rutyna

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jan Rutyna, beloved grandfather, parent, and friend, who left us on July 16, 2024 at the age of 92.

Jan was born on February 12, 1932 in Poland to Zofia and Marian Rutyna. Jan married Stafania in 1956, and together they built a loving family, raising 2 children in Canada: George and Anna.

Throughout his life, Jan was known for his wisdom and handiness. Jan found joy in attending church, gardening and loved spending time outdoors riding bikes, walking or feeding ducks, and he was especially passionate about feeding his family through his delicious homemade pierogies.

Jan is survived by his children, George (Late- Nadine) Rutyna and Anna (Bob) Milbers, his grandchildren, Christopher Rutyna, Amanda (Justyn) Rutyna, Sarah (Brad) Rutyna, Katie (Alex) Milbers and Paul (Ecaterina) Milbers, and 2 great-grandchildren. 

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to honor Jan's life on July 25, 2024 at 11:00 am at Ward’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Eugene de Mazenod Parish through the Archdiocese of Toronto or The Heart and Stroke Foundation, in memory of Jan Rutyna.

Though Jan is no longer with us, his spirit and love will continue to guide and inspire us. We will always remember him with a smile, grateful for the precious moments we shared.
