Ivan (John) Stefan Stekar

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Ivan in his 93rd year. He passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital with his family at his side. Beloved husband of Kristina for 60 years. Loving son of Ivan and Katarina Stekar (both deceased). Loving Father to Silvia, John (Carolyn), Rosey (Glenn), Frank, Louie (Barbara), Edward and Mark (Anna). Loving Grandfather to Elizabeth, Thomas, Madeline, Evan, Stefan, Jonathan, Sara, Nicholas, Harrison, Andrew, Adrianna and Michael.Ivan immigrated to Canada from Slovenia in 1956 with his wife and infant daughter. He missed his family and friends in Slovenia, but was very grateful to have the opportunity to live in Canada. He worked hard and established a new life for himself and his family. He enjoyed family gatherings, volunteering at his church, flower and vegetable gardening, wine-making, and spending time with his wide circle of friends. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends in Canada, Slovenia, and the U.S. Friends will be received at Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Rd. (North of Lawrence Ave. W.), Weston on Tuesday, March 4th from 7–9 p.m. and Wednesday, March 5th from 2–4 p.m. and 7–9 p.m. Funeral mass to take place at St. John the Evangelist Church, 49 George St., Toronto on Thursday, March 6th at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to St. Joseph’s Hospital.
