Born in Derry, Northern Ireland Isobel was one of eight children. Recently passed at the age of 94. Isobel grew up in a house full of laughter and enjoyed listening to the "stories" and serials on "the wireles", the radio.
Weekends were spent at the "picture house" watching movies and late nights dancing at the popular country barn dances in Ireland.
In 1968 Isobel immigrated solo to Canada to join her love Norman to start a new life in Toronto. Isobel's first years were tough away from her family.
First years here in Toronto were hard working, but she found a balance in the social life offered by the many other Irish families. Weeks were filled with Irish Dances, with the Showbands in Toronto, (especially loved The Carlton Showband) and in raising her 3 children Ann, Angela and James. Isobel grew to love Toronto. Isobel celebrated her 94th birthday this year, surrounded by her family and friends.
She will be greatly missed by her beloved grandson Jarlath, her surviving siblings James, Mary and John. Previously passed are her parents Joseph and Bridget, as well as beloved siblings, Joe, Teresa, Patrick, and Anthony. Greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews in Ireland, England and Scotland. Her easy laugh and sweet manner will be missed.
A shout out to the wonderful staff in medicine especially at Toronto Western Hospital, West Park Rehab Hospital and the Dorothy Ley Hospice. Thank you to all their superstar Nurses, caring Physicians, Coordinators and PSWs.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dorothy Ley Hospice.
