It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Irene Rose Christie in her 92nd year. 

Irene lived her life with grace, dignity and a very caring heart. She lost her beloved husband Joe almost 40 years ago and carried on on her own as strong independent woman of sharp intellect throughout the decades. While Irene was a private individual, her circle of close friends considered her as family, and she was kind and generous to all whose lives she touched. 

Irene was born in Newcastle Upon Tyme in 1934, where she married her beloved Joe in 1956. They moved to Canada not long thereafter, but kept close ties with family in the UK. She leaves behind her sister Pamela Baxter and brother John Gardiner, along with their families in the United Kingdom, who greatly grieve Irene’s passing. 

Irene was a generous donor to a great many charities including the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Arthritis Canada and several hospitals. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a favourite charity of your choosing in Irene’s memory. 

There will be a private service at Glendale Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Monday, April 27th at 1pm, where Irene will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband. We all hold her dearly in our hearts and thoughts. Rest in peace dear Irene.
