Hubert Maria Wooning January 10 2026 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hubert (Bert) Wooning. Born in Rotterdam NLD to Johannes and Johanna Wooning on January 23, 1931 and passed away peacefully at home on January 10, 2026 in Toronto, Ontario. Predeceased by his wife, Irene Wooning (Parr) and sister Henrika (Henni) Hendrix. He will be sadly missed by his son John Wooning (wife Jane) and daughter Anne Wooning (partner Glenn). He will be forever loved by his grandchildren Brian, Janice, Kelly, Andrew (wife Megan) and great grandchildren Shannon and Landon. He was a longtime employee of the TTC where he worked as an operator for 33 years. He loved his part time job at the LCBO where he may, or may not have acquired his love and taste for an excellent single malt. He was also a wonderful baker. When his family immigrated from Holland to Canada March 1950 he worked for many years in a bakery in Aldershot. He loved baking pastries, pies, cakes for his family’s birthdays, special occasions and holidays. We were so spoiled. He also had a dedication to swimming and would go each and every day, at 0600 am, to the Etobicoke Olympium. He would swim lengths and enjoy conversations and friendships with his fellow swimmers. He was a dedicated, and one of the original parishioners, serving 65 years at Transfiguration of our Lord Roman Catholic Church in Etobicoke. He was also a server for 40 of those years. He regularly attended their 7:45 am mass and enjoyed the many years he spent as a member of that parish. He had such a strong will to live life. Although he had many health setbacks, we would always admire his strength and will to live. He never complained. His favourite line he’d always say, “I’m pretty good for a young fella”. He was almost 95 years young! He will be sadly missed but we are so grateful for the time we shared.
