Hilda Olga d’Agrella – after a long a full life, passed away peacefully on April 23rd, 2013 at the age of 89 years. The youngest child of the late Francis Joseph and Mathilda d’Agrella of Guyana (formerly British Guiana) came to Canada in 1953 and became the pioneer for most of her family and relatives now living here.
She is predeceased by her siblings Estelle Cossou (England), Alfred Johnson (Florida), Marie DeSouza, Olive Zitman and Francis J. Jnr. She will be dearly missed by her many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews in Guyana, England, Barbados and here in Canada, and by her dearest friend and “honorary” sister Cynthia Hendy.
Olga had a very colourful life, did much travelling and, as a member of the Guyana Rifle Association, represented The West Indies at Bisley, Surrey, England, in 1953 where she won THE IMP TROPHY, competing with both men and women. For many years she was a member of the Queen’s York Rangers Rifle Association.
She was also a Cub Leader in the Boys Scouts Organization and AKELA for Cub Packs in Guyana and in Toronto’s East-end. An avid sports fan in many sports, she followed the Toronto Blue Jays from their inception until just recently, and travelled with them to many of the ball parks.
