HELEN ELIAS-OBITUARY
Born in Kastoria, Greece, July 30, 1931, passed away in Toronto March 6, 2016. Survived by Angelo, the love of her life and husband of 60 years, her son George (Lisa), daughter Vivian (John), and sister Toula. She adored her grandchildren Avery, Michael and Gabriel and was a loving aunt to Tassie, Matoula and Christos. She is predeceased by her brother Thomas and his wife Athina. Helen’s boundless energy, strength and hopeful outlook helped her overcome obstacles, live a full life and encourage others. Helen was a dynamic, longtime member and past president of the Kastorian Society of Toronto and was otherwise immersed in the Greek community. She had numerous cousins and friends from Greece in Toronto when she arrived in 1955. Helen was a published writer and poet with a historian’s interest in Kastoria, particularly in its culture and language. She loved flowers, gardening, her home, family and neighbours. Heartfelt thanks to her caregivers and friends at Humber Heights Memory Care who contributed to Helen and Angelo’s great quality of life over the last 15 months.
