It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hanapi Bin Kadri on December 29, 2025, at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
Hanapi, also known as Harry to many, is now reunited with his beloved wife, Carmelita, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and happiness.
He was born in Miri, Sarawak in Malaysia on May 24,1938 to Kadri Bin Majid and Rajmah Bin Awang Tengah.
Hanapi studied in Malaysia and pursued a career in diesel mechanics. In his early twenties, with very little money and a dream for a better life, he packed his clothes and mechanical tools and flew to England. Not due to luck, but sheer determination, he found employment almost immediately wherever he moved. His past employers described him as a man of sober nature, clean habits, good time management and great work ethics.
He met his wife in Toronto, Ontario and they got married on October 26, 1979. Not only did Hanapi fulfilled his dream of having the life he desired, but he also fulfilled Carmelita’s dream of reuniting with her three children who were still in the Philippines at that time, and he later brought them to Canada and adopted them in 1980.
Besides rebuilding truck engines, Hanapi enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He was always busy and productive at the same time. He travelled all around Asia and Europe with his wife. They enjoyed watching movies and wrestling together. And when his wife became ill, he devoted his time taking care of her.
He was a loving husband to Carmelita, a devoted father to Romana (William), Arlie (Christina), Joe Agner (Tracy). He was a cherished Lolo to Robert, Michael (Phatcha), David (Tina), Jasmin, Kyle, Daniella, Matthew, Emma, and Mariah, and a beloved Great Lolo to Jayda, Aidan, Sienna, Naya, Mya, Lexa, and Arya.
Hanapi will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
