Gordon Donald Edwards
October 6, 1936 – February 4, 2023
Donald passed away at the age of 86 on February 4, 2023 at Brampton Civic Hospital from congestive heart failure. Born in Windsor on October 6, 1936 to G. Donald and Josephine Edwards, he was the third born of 6 children. Brother to Joanne (d. 1984), Betty Gail, Gary (d. 2019), Patricia and Joe, and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Donald was raised in Malton, then joined the Canadian Army after high school and was stationed at CFB Gagetown, N.B. Following his service, he enrolled in radio college to further his communications training. He spent his career employed by the Federal Department of Transport and Communications as a DECCA operator, working in various locations as far north as Nakina, Ontario and as far east as Anticosti Island in the mouth of the St Lawrence River until he retired in 1984. Donald settled in Brampton in 1986.
Donald was always passionate about his hobbies. In his younger years he was a keen photographer, developing all his own photographs, a ham radio operator proficient in Morse code, and a licensed pilot and member of the Brampton Flying Club. He was also an avid hunter and outdoorsman and a member of the Kimikong Hunt Club. He will be missed by many long-time friends.
Donald’s pets were an important part of his life, especially the late Boomer, his beloved feline companion. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held..
