It is with heavy hearts but deep gratitude that we announce the passing of Georgia “Υουλα” Veltsos nee Bakogiannis of Toronto, age 93. Born in Patras, Greece, she carried her strength, warmth, and deep love of family across the sea to Canada, where she made a lasting home and built a legacy of love and resilience.
She was the devoted mother of Alexandra and Gerasimos, cherished grandmother of Hellen and Athanasios, proud great‑grandmother of Summer, Jeremy and Demetrios, and adored great‑great‑grandmother to Madison. Her home was always open, her table always full, and her laughter a steady presence in the lives of all who knew her.
Georgia—known lovingly as Yia Yia—took pride in saying, “No one leaves my house hungry.” Her memories of growing up in Patras, her love and pride of her Greek heritage and culture, and the stories she shared helped shape the next generations.
She will be deeply missed by her family, relatives, and friends, who carry her love and lessons forward.
