George Rampersad

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of George Rampersad on October 4th. He was the second child and second son of six children. He is predeceased by his sisters Lynette and Claire and is the loving brother of Rodney (Joyce), Lloyd, Constance (Kenneth) and the loving uncle to his nieces and nephews. His memories will be cherished by family and friends.

George loved his family and spent much time with them, especially Lynette and her family who lived close by. During winter, he would travel to Trinidad to visit the rest of his family. You could never have a conversation with George without his injection of a joke or story to make you laugh. On the street, you would see him regularly stop to chat with his neighbours on his way to or from an errand.

George was honest and hardworking. He was an educator, a lecturer of Biology to first and second year university students at MountA, and then a teacher of Math, Science and Industrial Arts to high school students in Toronto. He would frequently wax eloquently about medical topics but also put his hand to task with carpentry and gardening.

George enjoyed his garden. His harvest was plentiful at times, especially his winter tomatoes, and he found pleasure in sharing the harvest with his family, friends and neighbours. He also loved doing chores that involved woodworking and carpentry. He built his own shed from scratch and would help his family with carpentry tasks. His level of work was meticulous and very professional.

His passing was too soon after the passing of his sister Lynette. He will be missed by his family, friends and neighbours.

In honour of George, donations can be made to Samaritan’s Purse, the Cancer Research Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
