George Georgiou

February 6, 1942 — December 23, 2025

George Georgiou

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at the age of 83. A devoted husband to Helen of 64 wonderful years. A proud father to Angelo (Nea), Nick (Ana), and Danny (Nadia). Cherished Papou to Jennifer, Elizabeth, Stefan, Alexander, Lucas, and Adam. He will be sadly missed by his sister Sika and his many family members and friends. George has been reunited with his dear parents, Vasili and Polexeni, and his siblings Stefana, Katina, and Dimitri.

George began his life in the small town of Marina in Northern Greece. As a young boy, he enjoyed kicking around his soccer ball and playing with the other children in town. As a young man, while waiting for a train in Marina, George caught his first glimpse of Helen. Sometime later, with the help of his eldest sister, he was introduced to her. This marked the beginning of their everlasting life together. On April 16, 1961, Helen and George were married.

In 1966, in search of better opportunities and prosperity for his family, George set out with his wife and son Evangelos (Angelo). He bravely decided to come to Canada to join his three sisters and their families. Aboard the ship Anna Maria, the journey took 12 days from Athens to Halifax, followed by a train trip where they would settle in Toronto.

In Canada, the couple worked hard together to build a life for their three boys, ensuring their sons had more than they did. Known for his hard work and dedication, George embarked on a career with Reff, now known as the Knoll Group. His dedication and perseverance enabled him to build a career that lasted 41 years, until his retirement as Lead Foreman, where he was looked up to and respected as a leader by his employees and superiors.

When George was not working and providing for his family, he was a social man who enjoyed spending time as a member of the Marina Society of Toronto. At their office in the Greek community on Danforth Avenue, George held recurring terms as President and Treasurer. As a committee, they planned social events that bridged their traditional heritage with their new life in Canada. While socializing with community members, George often shared stories of his family, especially his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.

George was a man of great faith regularly attending church service with his wife. He was known by many to be a humble and generous man, always offering help and support to anyone in need without hesitation. Of all his accomplishments, however, his greatest pride was his six grandchildren. A devoted Papou, his grandchildren always came first, and every encounter ended with a small token from Papou’s wallet that brought him immense pleasure and a smile to his face.

George will be fondly remembered as a “genuine” and “wonderful man” who, although quiet in nature, brought great joy and happiness whenever he walked into a room. He lived his life with humility, integrity, and perseverance, always leading by example and never asking more of others than he was willing to give. Above all, George was a loving, kind, caring, compassionate, and sensitive man who stood firmly on the principle that family comes first. George’s legacy will remain in the hearts of everyone he knew and touched.

He will be remembered as one of the very best.
