Gemma Volpatti 91, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on February 19, 1935, in San Quirino, Italy, Gemma survived the hardships of WWII, having lost her father at the age of eight. After the passing of her mother, Gemma followed her late sister, Rosina and, her brother-in-law Giuseppe to Canada, where she met her lifelong love, Jack (1926-2022), with whom she dedicated her life to creating a loving home for their children, Michael (Hana), and Michelle (Christopher); and grandchildren Luke, Andrea, John and, Matthew.
Gemma's greatest joys came from her family, where she had boundless love and energy to support her husband, nurture her children and grandchildren. She hosted countless holiday parties and welcomed any opportunity to go dancing with Jack. Her cooking was legendary, and her closely guarded recipes were lovingly shared with her grandchildren who are now carrying on her tradition. Gemma's love for her flower gardens was matched in her late years with her newfound love for painting, also serving to keep Jack busy in building picture frames for her.
Mom couldn't have battled her illness for as long as she did without the care and kindness of Dr. Bhella and Maja of Princess Margaret, and Dr. Zive and her colleagues at Dorothy Ley Hospice. Her caregivers, Jennilyn, Aylin, Sylvia, Julliene and Jenna, looked after mom and treated her like their own and for that our family is ever grateful.
