Died peacefully February 8, 2012 at Ian Anderson House with his family by his side. Gard is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jene; daughter, Kathryn Mitchell; son, Ian (Claire Collins); daughter, Jane (Vince Chiricosta) and grandchildren, Drew, Robyn, Reese, Lauren, Ryan and Tessa. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Stephen Mitchell, sister, Irene Sullivan and brother, William A. Robertson.
Gard was born in Toronto on April 25, 1926, son of Sarah and Thomas Robertson and grew up in the Danforth area. He served at a very young age in the Royal Canadian Navy in WWII.
Following graduation from the University of Toronto, he served in the Royal Canadian Dragoons. After a brief stint teaching high school in Collingwood, he moved into the corporate world, joining the Ford Motor Co. in Oakville. In 1966, he moved to Montreal and joined the Bank of Montreal, where he had a successful career in Human Resources. In 1978, Gard and his family returned to Toronto for the remainder of his career. He was happy spending time with family and friends in Oakville and at his Muskoka cottage.
Visitation will take place at Knox Presbyterian Church, 89 Dunn Street, Oakville, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 11th; service at 12:00 p.m. and reception to follow.
