Frederick Hunter

Frederick John Hunter
1928 – 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce Fred Hunter passed away peacefully on October 18 in Toronto at the age of 86.

Fred was born in Montreal; the son of the late Arthur Hunter and the late Sarah Alice Rodney. He married the love of his life Donna (Dawson) on August 12, 1950 and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage together, dancing the light fantastic whenever and wherever possible.

Fred also leaves behind his loving children Karen, Stephen (Victoria), Michael (Tracy Rowan) and Susanne (Daniel Johnson); his beloved grandchildren Karen Johnson (Valdemar Anglin), Cheryl Johnson (Floyd Lawrence), Sarah, Zachary, Adam, Julia, Heather and Jerome; great grandchildren Arielle and Summer; and his cherished brother William (Heather). Fred was predeceased by his brothers Tom, Jack and Ed.

In 1993 Fred retired after a 46 year career with Facelle. He joined the company in 1947 as a Freight Clerk. Studying in the evenings Fred earned his CPA in 1960 (CA in 1962) and was subsequently appointed to senior roles that included Controller, Secretary-Treasurer and Director of the Company.

Fred loved life. He was a man of faith, valued family, cheered on the Habs and was known to do a mean jig to The Barra MacNeils in the living room. Fred lived out his faith through volunteer service including the Anglican Church, West Toronto Support Services and Meals on Wheels.

A celebration of his life will take place at St. Philip’s Anglican Church (25 St. Philips Road, Etobicoke) on Thursday, October 23rd, 2014 at 11:00 am.

Friends will be welcomed at the Ward Funeral Homes Weston Chapel (2035 Weston Rd, Toronto) on Wednesday, October 22nd from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to Faithworks (https://contact.toronto.anglican.ca/stewardship/faithworks) or a charity of your choice.
