Florence Irene Clifton (nee Riesberry)

January 23, 1928 - November 8, 2023

Florence passed away peacefully at Brampton Civic Hospital, following a brief illness, with her son Ron by her side.

She was the beloved wife of the late Claude Clifton (2014), loving mother of Claudia (Aldo D’Agostino), Ron and the late Paul (1977), cherished grandmother of Ian and David (Rosie), proud great-grandmother of Remi, Emil and Birk and dear friend to Rene and Liliana, Faustino and Eulalia.

Florence is survived by sisters-in-law Barbara Riesberry and Joan Kerr (the late Gerald), brother-in-law Duncan Clifton (Dorothy), her cousin Dorothy Matheson and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Clarence and Florence Riesberry and her siblings Margaret (and Stewart) Hunter, the Rev. William (and Linda) Riesberry, the Rev. James Riesberry and by her brothers-in-law Bruce (and Doris) Clifton, Warren (and Margaret) Clifton, John (and Louise) Clifton and Ken (and Mary) Clifton.

Florence was born and lived most of her life in Brampton. She graduated from the Toronto General Hospital School of Nursing in 1949, married Claude that same year at Christ Church, worked on the pediatric unit at Peel Memorial Hospital and supported Claude as he founded Clifton Television. Together they raised three children and enjoyed many wonderful years actively involved in the church, square and round dancing, playing bridge, building and enjoying their cottage on Butterfly Lake in Muskoka and, in retirement, travelling.

Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home (Brampton Chapel, 52 Main Street South) on Thursday, November 16th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 17th at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Church Anglican, 4 Elizabeth Street N., Brampton. Burial to follow at the Brampton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Florence’s name to Operation Smile Canada or the Canadian Red Cross.
