Vana Chacalos (born Evangeli Pasgas) passed away on September 12, 2026, in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 78. Born October 3, 1947, in Kato Kleines, Greece, to Demetrios (Jim) Pasgas and Tragianni (Diana) Pasgas, she came to Canada as a feisty young child and was raised in Oshawa. She later moved to Toronto, when she met her late husband, Chris Chacalos, and together they raised their family.
Warm, spirited and kind, Vana had a quick wit, a wonderful sense of humour and an ever-ready joke that could bring a smile to those around her. An early entrepreneur, she established her own hair studio before stepping away from her career to devote herself to raising her family. Her greatest accomplishment was never something that could be put on a résumé. It was the family she built. She devoted herself to her four children, Mary, Tom, John and Steven, and was a constant source of guidance, encouragement and unconditional love throughout their lives.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, daughters-in-law Elizabeth and Antonietta, and grandchildren Sarah, Sabastian and Alexander. Her humour, spirit and the love she gave so freely will remain with them always. She leaves behind a family who will carry her laughter, her warmth and the many moments they shared for years to come.
