SCHIN, ERIKA
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Erika Schin on December 1, 2011. Born in Hirschfelde, Germany, on March 12,1927, Erika immigrated to Canada with her husband & 2 young daughters in the 1949, leaving behind everyone & everything she knew. She was ready to embrace a new life for herself & her family. She lived in Toronto for 62 years and was predeceased by her husband of 35 yrs, John Schin, and years later by her dear friend, Jan Przes. At work, Square D. Co., and McDonnell Douglas, she made many friends who will forever cherish their precious memories of her. Although we deeply mourn her loss we rejoice that she was with us for so long enriching our lives. In Canada, Erika is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Olga & Bruce Huntly and Ilona & Tim Salley. Her four grandchildren loved and admired her: Alex Huntly, Shawna & Jason Pichler and Tara Waterhouse. Her young great grand daughter, Madison Waterhouse has been a great joy to her. In Germany she is survived by her sister, Irene and predeceased by sisters Gudrun and Hannie and by brothers Werner and Siegfried. Erika will be sadly missed by all her extended family and friends both here and abroad. We wish to thank those who provided support especially during her final weeks. The family will receive friends at the Ward Funeral Home (2035 Weston Rd., north of Lawrence Ave W.) on Sunday December 4th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Her funeral service will take place on Monday December 5th at 10:30 am. Interment to follow at Sanctuary Park Cemetery. For those who wish, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be welcome.
