Eric John McCabe,
October 28, 1938 - August 21, 2012
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Eric on Tuesday, August 21, 2012. After a brief battle with leukemia, Eric left this earth surrounded by family. Eric was predeceased by his daughter Lorraine Anne Knights and leaves behind his daughters Carol and Heather, and their husbands Nicholas Danchuk and Greg Donaldson. Eric cherished the time spent with all of his grandchildren; Amanda and Christopher Knights; Sarah Danchuk; Ava, Andrew and William Donaldson.
Born in Rothesay, Isle of Bute, Scotland, Eric was the second son of Joseph and Florence McCabe. He is survived by brothers Joseph and Frank; predeceased by brother Ronald. Early in life, he and his young family immigrated to Canada, first arriving in Montreal during Expo 66 and later settled in Ontario. Eric was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Painters and laboured in both Quebec and Ontario. He successfully ran his own company, Eric McCabe Painting & Decorating for many years before his retirement.
Eric held a lively opinion across a variety of subjects and loved to debate. He was an avid Celtic football supporter, enjoyed playing and listening to music and gardening. Eric adored his family, friends and his pets. In social gatherings he added life to the conversation, espousing a vibrant opinion combined with a charming sense of humour and Scottish inflection. His colour commentary on life will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held from 10-11:00am Saturday August 25th at the Ward Funeral Home “Brampton chapel”, 52 Main Street South, Brampton, with Service to follow at 11:00am
