Emanuel Jorge Franco Rombeiro (1955–2026)
It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Emanuel Jorge Franco Rombeiro, age 70, originally of Vila do Porto, Santa Maria Island, Azores, Portugal. He was welcomed into God’s loving arms on January 5, 2026, following an uphill battle that tested his body but never diminished his spirit.
Emanuel was born on October 17, 1955. He was the cherished son of the late José Inácio Rombeiro and Maria do Carmo Franco, and a devoted brother to the late Álvaro, João Luís, José Maria, Eduardo, and António José. He is survived by Marjorie, Irene Alice, Eleonora, and Maria da Conceição (known as Sãozinha).
He was the loving husband of Sonia Rombeiro (nee Silva de Souza), a devoted father to Michael (wife Rebecca) and Gabriel (wife Carolina), and grandfather to Sierra and Jonas, a source of quiet joy in his life.
Emanuel was a man defined by hard work, faith, and perseverance. He laboured tirelessly throughout his life, never shying away from responsibility and always striving to do right by those he loved. A man of deep religious conviction, he lived his faith openly and joyfully, eager to share the Gospel and offer words of hope to anyone willing to listen. He possessed a warm and generous spirit, along with a natural gift for humour, often going out of his way to make others laugh even in difficult moments.
A true fighter in every sense, Emanuel faced life’s challenges with resilience and quiet strength. Recently retired, he remained fiercely independent, continuing to run his errands and live life in his own steady, old-fashioned way - with purpose, pride, and determination. Gentle at heart and guided by compassion from an early age, he lived with good intentions, never wishing harm upon anyone. He dedicated himself to providing for his family and giving his children every opportunity he could, often placing the needs of others ahead of his own. Though life did not always unfold as he had hoped, the love behind his efforts never wavered, and it remained at the core of who he was.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Ward Funeral Home, located at 2035 Weston Road, Toronto, Ontario, M9N 1X7, on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Emanuel bravely endured multiple health challenges toward the end of his life, never losing his fighting spirit or faith. In his memory, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, honoring his strength and supporting others in their battles.
Emanuel’s legacy lives on in the love he gave, the faith he shared, and the lives he touched along the way. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. “One day we will meet again. Until then, know that you will be remembered, cherished, and forever loved. Saying goodbye hurts beyond words.” -Michael Rombeiro
