It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elvira Kolody (Vera) on July 13, 2026, at the age of 97.
Born in Germany, Elvira was the beloved daughter of Wilhelm Josef Birn and Anna Walburga Birn, who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her dear siblings, Edgar, Willie, and Erika, whom she spoke of often with great affection and carried in her heart throughout her life.
Elvira was a devoted mother to Ursula, a loving grandmother to Kathryn (Jeff), Christopher (Shelly), and Lisa, and a proud great-grandmother to Matthew, Amanda, Megan, Nicolas, Tristan, Ayden, and Jack.
A woman of remarkable strength, faith, and compassion, Elvira lived her life with grace, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to those she loved. Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every opportunity to spend time with them. She also held close the memories of visits from her beloved nephews in Germany and their families, whose love and connection brought her great joy.
Elvira found happiness in life's simple beauties. She had a special love for family, friends, animals, bright colours, and flowers. Her warm smile, generous spirit, and caring nature touched the lives of many and left lasting memories for all who knew her.
Deeply rooted in her faith, Elvira drew strength and comfort from her beliefs throughout her life. She was also a dedicated member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, where she generously gave her time in service to her community and forged many treasured friendships.
Elvira leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, faith, and devotion. The values she lived by and the memories she created will continue to inspire and guide her family for generations to come.
She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by her family, friends, and all whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
In honour of Elvira's bright spirit and her love of colour and flowers, family and friends are kindly invited to wear light-coloured attire to her service.
Special thanks to staff at West park.
Forever in our hearts. ❤️
