Elizabeth Cartier

Cartier: Elizabeth (nee Douglas)
Died quietly at Sunnybrook Hospital Acute Care wing on Tuesday May 29, 2012 after a prolonged battle to overcome a severe kidney infection. Born in Hardingstone, Northampton, England on September 9, 1929 she is survived by her husband Richard Harvey Cartier. Daughter of the late Dora (nee Courtman) and George Douglas. Sister of the late Spencer (Spen) Douglas. Liz (Lyd to her English family and friends) was an artistic, generous, caring, cheerful, talented, primary school teacher. Her oils and watercolours hang on the walls of many friends and family. She was always willingly forthcoming when asked for help or ideas. Her use of drama in the classroom established traditions in schools where she taught and her dramatic flair expanded into the community after she retired. Her delight in approving the work of others made her a fine director of plays and pantomimes. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by the many people whose lives she enriched. Cremation has taken place and there will be a Memorial to her from 2-5pm on Sunday July 29, 2012 at Fellowship Presbyterian Church (80 Thistle Down Blvd., Toronto). Ric will take her ashes to England later in the year with a remembrance for friends and family there before the ashes join those of her brother Spen. As expressions of sympathy, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
