Obituary

In Loving Memory of Elizabeth (Betty) Ujvari

It is with love and gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Ujvari nee Kovach who passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on July 3, 2026, at the age of 96.

Born on September 22, 1929, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to Ersai and Dezso Kovach, she grew up in Toronto with her sister Etta (predeceased) before embarking on her adventurous life in Hungary. Elizabeth lived a remarkable life filled with love, resilience, and devotion to family. Through times of change and challenge, she remained a source of strength, wisdom, and kindness for everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Elizabeth was a mother to Christina (Tony), Betty, and Andy, (Jen). Grandmother to Michael (Michelle), Adam (Stephanie), Anthony (Elena), Carlin and Lauren. Great-Grandmother to Garrett, Ethan, Jacob, William, Thomas, Lorenzo and Giuliano. She found great joy in spending time with family, sharing stories, celebrating holidays, and watching the family grow through the generations. The cottage was her happy place.

Elizabeth is predeceased by her best friend and eternal jitter bug partner Tibor Jozef Ujvari. At long last, they are reunited.

She is also predeceased by her furry, loyal companion Missy. She is survived by Rui, Tessa and ZsaZsa. Who’s going to feed them sneaky chips now?

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers and friends who provided comfort and support during Elizabeth’s final years. Specifically, Martina at the Kingsway Revera and the numerous compassionate and dedicated people at Agecare Westbury.

Elizabeth’s wishes were very clear. No fuss! Therefore, a donation to her favourite charity, the Toronto Human Society (she loved animals) in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.

According to her wishes, her family will be holding a Celebration of Elizabeth’s Extraordinary Life on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at 35 Viking Lane, Etobicoke, Ontario, M9B 0A2.
