Elizabeth Vinkovic [nee VUKOVIC], was born on October 15, 1928 in the town of Cakovec, Croatia and passed peacefully at Brampton Civic Hospital on the 25th of January, 2018 at the age of 89. Elizabeth met the love of her life, Josip Vinkovic, in the small town of Varazdin. When they welcomed their daughter Lillian into the world, they decided to pursue a new life in Canada in order to provide better opportunities for their growing family. In 1957, Josip and Elizabeth set out with Lillian to North America. For them, the strenuous and dangerous journey was considered a small price to pay in exchange for a safe and opportunistic future for their family. Soon after arriving safely to Toronto, Josip and Elizabeth welcomed their son Tomy into the world. The Vinkovics thrived in their new home while their family continued to grow with the arrival of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth was known for her joys of painting, sewing, cooking and spending time with her family. She was admired for the wonderful gardens that she built and cared for. Elizabeth enjoyed spending her weekends at the family cottage and her weekdays at the adult day service provided by the Tall Pines Retirement Home in Brampton. Her care for her loved ones was always held with the utmost importance, and she will be remembered for her generous heart. Elizabeth is loved by Lillian, Tomy and her daughter-in-law Caroline, her grandchildren Ryan, Camille, Melissa, and Tammy, and her great-grandchildren Nicholas, Daniel, Makayla and Arianna. Elizabeth was also a loving grandmother to her extended family including Ashley, Desmond, Shannon, Jamie, Jessica, Matthew, Sean, and Eamon.
Although we know that you are at peace, the pain and sadness of your passing has created a void in our hearts that was once filled by your laughter and smile. We always believed that we were taking care of you, but really you were taking care of us by bringing us closer together as a family. All of the time in the world would still not be enough to show you how grateful we are for everything that you have done and sacrificed for us. The memories we have with you will continue to live on, and the stories of your generosity and witty personality will continue to be shared and celebrated with many. We wish that we had the opportunity to say goodbye to you, but “see you tomorrow” will have to do until we meet again. We love you Baka, always and forever. Lubim te, počivao u miru.
