In Loving Memory of Elena Georgieff-Nazar-Stocks

January 6, 1929 – July 6, 2025

With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the peaceful passing of Elena Georgieff-Nazar-Stocks on July 6, 2025, at the age of 96. She passed away gently at Etobicoke General Hospital, surrounded by peace and care.

Born in Toronto, Ontario, on January 6, 1929, Elena lived a long and remarkable life defined by grace, resilience, and a deeply generous spirit. She brought warmth and strength to every room, and her kindness left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Elena was the beloved daughter of the late Gela and Stoyan Georgieff and is now reunited with her cherished siblings, Victor Georges and Olga Georges, as well as her three loving husbands: William Laleff, Edward Nazar, and Lawson Stocks. She was also predeceased by her dear sister-in-law, Helen Georges, and her treasured nieces and nephews: Gail McNamara, Victoria Russell, and Victor Georges Jr.

Elena leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in her family. She is survived by her two loving and loyal sons, Stephen Nazar and Mark Nazar, who were the pride and joy of her life. She was a proud and adoring grandmother to Sabrina Nazar-Gabay and Kirk Nazar, Mark’s children, who brought her immeasurable joy.

She was a cherished aunt to Georgia, Simone, Anthony, and Arsenka Georges, and a loving great-aunt to Colleen Martino, Lori Ann McNamara, Zorro Anthony Zonnekeyn, Paul Imperius, Gerry Russell, Kristy Andrade, Dylan Georges, Isabella Georges, Kyle Georges, and Kaitlin Georges. As a great-great aunt, she was beloved by Brielle, Xavier, Isabella, Nicholas, Tiago, Tavin James, Michael, Olivia, Logan, Amia, and Ava—the youngest generation who carry forward her legacy of love and family.

An incredible entrepreneurial spirit and tireless determination marked Elena’s life. At the age of 24, she opened Steffie’s Bar-B-Que on Weston Road, a successful neighbourhood restaurant she proudly ran before transitioning into fashion. In the early 1960s, she opened Elena’s Fashions, also on Weston Road—an elegant boutique that quickly became a community fixture. She retired from the fashion business in the early 1980s.

Not one to ever sit still, Elena became a highly awarded sales representative for Niagara Cyclo-Massage. She later pursued a new career as a Mortgage Specialist in the 1990s, which she embraced with the same dedication and success until her retirement in the late 1990s.

Beyond her work, Elena created a rich and joyful life centered around family. Her cherished cottage near Gravenhurst, on Nagaya Road at Kashe Lake, was the setting for countless family memories. Summers in the Muskoka's with Elena and her sister Olga were filled with laughter, lakeside serenity, day trips around the region, Olga’s home-cooked meals, and endless cups of tea shared on the deck. These moments remain deeply etched in the hearts of all who had the privilege to be there—reminders of a woman who made even the simplest moments feel special.

Elena’s life was one of grace, courage, and unwavering devotion. She was the heart of every gathering, the keeper of stories and traditions, and a guiding light for all who loved her. Her laughter, wisdom, and generous soul will be remembered always.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Etobicoke General Hospital for their kindness and care during Elena’s final days.

A celebration of Elena’s life will be held in the coming days. Details will be shared with loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honour Elena’s memory to donate to a charity close to their hearts—a fitting tribute to a woman who gave so much of hers to others.

“Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”
