Dr. Brian Thicke, physician, pilot, sailor, golfer, entrepreneur, writer, art collector, world traveler, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Sept 28, 2025.
Dr. Thicke’s contributions to Brampton and Canada are reflected in the incredible outpouring of love and respect bestowed upon him by countless grateful patients and friends.
Growing up in the gold mining town of Kirkland Lake, Thicke always knew he wanted to be a doctor, and he worked relentlessly delivering groceries, labouring underground in the mines, and selling Christmas trees to achieve his dream.
After graduating from the University of Western Ontario’s Medical School, he began his life of public service as a flight surgeon in the Royal Canadian Air Force, achieving the rank of Major and Wing Commander. He then headed back up north to the burgeoning community of Elliot Lake, building a thriving medical practice.
Thicke was always ahead of the curve, and saw a bright future in the emerging community of Bramalea-Brampton. After moving his young family there, he spent nearly five decades at Peel Memorial Hospital, many as Chief of Medicine. He also instituted a revolutionary system of health care for senior citizens at Tullamore Nursing Home, that is still used in retirement communities across the country. For his many years of service, Thicke was honoured with the Gala Award for Lifetime Achievement in his community
Dr. Thicke was also an accomplished pilot and active member of Brampton Flying Club. As sponsoring Chairman of the “Snowy Owl” Royal Canadian Air Cadet Corps, he spent countless hours nurturing, educating and shaping the leaders of tomorrow. In addition, he was Civil Aviation Medical Examiner, maintaining the highest physical, mental and professional standards for both private and professional pilots.
His varied business pursuits led to travels across the world, from Tokyo to Texas, London to Costa Rica and beyond. His family trips saw him fishing in the Northwest Territories, sailing the Greek Islands, whale watching in Hawaii, clothes shopping in Hong Kong, touring churches in Tuscany, riding Disneyland’s Thunder Mountain with grandkids, and searching for the perfect custard tart in Portugal.
Dr. Thicke was happily married to Dr. Diane Bridges, and was extremely proud of the accomplishments of his children, Alan, Joanne, Todd, his beloved grandchildren, Brennan, Robin, Carter, Victoria, Creighton, Evan, Jillian, and his great-grandchildren, Tyler, Cheyenne, Julian, Mia, Lola, Luca, Landon and loving nieces Lori and Bev.
