Douglas Milton Reid
July 26, 1947 – May 29, 2026
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Milton Reid on May 29, 2026, in his 79th year.
Douglas was a kind, gentle, and caring soul whose greatest joy was spending time with those he loved. One of the highlights of every week was his Sunday evening FaceTime call with his daughter, Robin, a tradition he looked forward to without fail.
Douglas was predeceased by his parents, Ruby and Gilbert Reid, and by his brother, Tony Reid.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Joan Whelan, and his cherished daughter, Robin Reid, of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He is also lovingly remembered by his brother-in-law, Stephen Whelan and sister-in-law Carole, as well as by his nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Douglas will be dearly missed by his cousins in Welland, Ontario, and Jamaica.
Douglas dedicated 32 years of service to Canada Post before his retirement. In retirement, he enjoyed building birdhouses, creating 3D artwork, and spending countless hours working on crossword puzzles. He also loved travelling to the Caribbean, where he and Joan enjoyed escaping to the sunshine twice each year.
A lifelong soccer fan, Douglas rarely missed a match. He recorded countless games over the years and would have been thrilled to spend hours watching and cheering during the FIFA World Cup.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Douglas' life at Ward Funeral Home on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. A reception with food and refreshments will follow immediately after the service.
Inurnment will take place at a later date at Sanctuary Park Cemetery.
His kindness, quiet nature, and love for family will be remembered always by those fortunate enough to have known him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
