Dorene Lillian Warren Love
Born in Etobicoke, Ontario 3 May 1932. Died at home in Brampton, Ontario surrounded by her family 15 March 2013, after a bravely borne fight with cancer.
Beloved mother, adored grandmother, fashion designer, businessperson, community servant, loyal friend, crackerjack scrabble player, treasured bridge partner, avid reader, elegant hostess, golfer, gardener, farm girl.
Dorene was born at the height of the Great Depression in Ontario, the eldest daughter of Randolph and Mabel Warren of Etobicoke, Ontario.
Dorene married her former husband, John Love, an architect, in Etobicoke in 1956 and relocated to Peel Village in Brampton in 1961 to raise their three sons, David, Mark, and Paul.
In 1969, Dorene graduated from Sheridan College in Brampton with an Honours diploma from the Fashion Design program.
Following graduation in that same year, Dorene and her partner Sandy opened Poppy in Brampton, Ontario. Initially a purveyor of custom-made women’s fashion in, Poppy became a local leader in women’s wear and added a second location in Oakville.
Eventually, Dorene became Poppy’s sole proprietor and a respected member of the small enclave of downtown Brampton merchants. Poppy flourished in three different locations in downtown Brampton for thirty years until her retirement in 1999.
Dorene was also a Charter Member of the Zonta Club of Brampton-Caledon, in which she was very active.
Dorene is survived by her sister Lorna Warren of Streetsville, her son David and her daughter-in-law Shanmarie Love of Brampton, her son Mark and her daughter-in-law Debbie Love of Brampton, her son Paul of Brampton, her grandchildren Emma Warren Love, Sarah Muriel Love, David Collie, Cheryl Collie-Baker, and her great grandchildren Sierra Love Pike, Nathan Collie, Jax Baker, and Vienna Baker.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of our Mother’s life will take place at a later date.
