With heartfelt sadness, we announce the passing of Dimitrios Floros of Toronto, on Thursday, September 11th, 2025 at the age of 83 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Irene; children: Panayiota (Ioannis), Stamata (Minas) and Maria (Dimitrios); grandchildren: Panayiotis, Nektaria, Eleni, Demetri, Efthimia, Marianna; and brother, Christos.
Dimitrios was born in October 1941 in the village of Skoura, Laconia, Greece. After the loss of his father at the young age of eight, he quickly assumed the role of a responsible older brother, caring deeply for his family. In 1963, he immigrated to Montreal, Canada, where he began a new life with hope and determination. Just one year later, in 1964, he met his beloved wife Irene, and on April 10,1965, they were married. Together they shared a beautiful life, bound by faith, love and devotion.
A gifted chef, Dimitrios dedicated his career to the culinary arts, sharing his passion for Greek cuisine with his wife and those around him. He will be fondly remembered for his “master chef” skills, especially his legendary Thanksgiving feasts. Beyond the kitchen, he was an avid reader, deeply interested in Greek history, philosophy and politics. He enjoyed daily walks, tending to his garden, cooking for family, and listening to his favorite dimotika songs. Above all, he gave most of his time and effort to taking care of his family. He will forever be remembered as a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother—a man whose selfless, giving nature and boundless devotion to family defined his life.
In 2021, after a major stroke, he fought with courage and perseverance to walk again, enduring months of rehabilitation. Soon after, he faced other challenges which further impacted his mobility and health.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, September 18th, 2025 from 5:00pm and 8:00pm at St. Irene Chrisovalantou, Greek Orthodox Church (66 Gough Avenue, Toronto).
Dimitiros will be repatriated to Skoura, Greece. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Irene Chrisovalantou Greek Orthodox Church in Dimitrios’ memory Click here to donate.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Hellenic Home - Scarborough, especially Dr. Donna Vlahos, along with the dedicated nurses, PSWs, social workers, housekeeping and fellow residents and their families, whose company and friendship brought comfort to Dimitrios and his wife.
