Derrick Whonder aged 67, passed away on May 15, 2024, after a brave battle with cancer. Born on June 30, 1956, in Jamaica, Derrick moved to Canada as a teenager and made it his home for the rest of his life.
Derrick was a man of many talents, known for his love of reading, walking, and playing musical instruments. His passion for music shone brightly as he played the drums for the reggae band, 20th Century Rebels. His vibrant rhythms and melodies were a testament to his deep connection to his Jamaican roots.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Doris, and his beloved wife, Angela, who passed away a few years ago. Derrick is survived by his four children, Chantel, Juma, Akeem Jordan, and Sierra, and his two cherished grandchildren, Amiyah and Xavier. As the oldest of his siblings, Derrick leaves behind his brothers, Donovan and Peter.
Derrick was an amazing son, brother, father, uncle, and grandfather. His family and friends will forever cherish his memory and miss him deeply.
A celebration of Derrick's life will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Ward Funeral Home (2035 Weston Road). Family and friends are invited to join in honoring his legacy.
