Concetta Varriano nee D’Amato
March 1, 1933 – March 9, 2016
Strong, generous, smart, opinionated stubborn; some of the words often used to describe my mother. She was an expert seamstress, cook and gardener. After 60 years she was still completely head over heels in love with my father Pasquale. Devoted to her siblings Angiolina, Pietro, Domenico and Rosa (both predeceased). Proud and protective of both her grandchildren, Melissa and Giancarlo. She had lifelong friendships dating back to her years in Vinchiaturo, Italy. Typical of my mother, she faced cancer head on, maintaining a sense of humour right to the end. She set an example for me that I’ve tried to follow through my own life challenges. Many thanks to her caregivers and the palliative team at Osler Health Centre in Etobicoke.
