It is with deep sadness that the family of Cecile Clodagh Phelps, 87, of Brampton, Ontario announces her passing on Wednesday, January 11, 2024.

Born to Cecil and Eva Rawle in 1936 in Dominica, W.I., she moved to United Kingdom in early adulthood to pursue a career in nursing and it was there she met and married her late husband of 60 years, Ian Phelps.

Known lovingly by those close to her as Clodagh, she built a thriving career as a registered nurse. She started her profession in the United Kingdom working in obstetrics; she also worked for the World Health Organization in its vaccination programs. In the latter part of her nursing career, she studied gerontology and focused on geriatric care.

In retirement, she enjoyed listening to all types of music, reading, gardening, crossword puzzles, travelling and spending time with her family and friends.

Predeceased by her husband, her parents, and her siblings: sisters Vera (Elsie) Vanier, Sylvia Watty, Corinne Davis, Sonia Kelsick and Gloria Auil, brother Eric Rawle. Survived her by sons Eric (Karen) and Andre (Vanessa), her daughters Lisa (Robert) and Alana (Dominic), her granddaughters Daron and Delaney, her grandsons Benjamin and Cole and her many nieces and nephews.

Clodagh will be remembered as a compassionate nurse and an effortlessly funny person who was kind, caring and lived her life with curiosity, love and courage.

We will miss her presence as a loving mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, and friend.

A funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Brampton, Ontario. A reception will follow. The service will be streamed online for those who cannot attend in person.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
