Catherine Roy

March 29, 1915 — November 9, 2014

Catherine Roy

Died in her home on November 9, 2014 in Oakville, Ontario in her 100th year.
Kate was born on March 29, 1915 in Oneida Castle, New York to Eugene Francis and Ellen (nee Duross) Cronin. She graduated from Notre Dame College, Cleveland, Ohio, in 1938. Thereafter, Catherine, an administrative assistant joined the Cleveland Clinic, Dept. of Surgery, where she met her love, husband and companion in life, Dr. Wallace Roy a Canadian radiologist.
Kate and Wallie headed for the golden west, California; where they lived and worked until 1950. Two sons arrived during the western leg of their life’s journey, Larry and Robert. In 1950 the family of four headed east to Halifax, Nova Scotia, a road trip to never forget! Kate (she loved to drive) at the wheel of a new Buick Roadmaster set a new cross country record time for road travel.
Catherine embraced her family life in Nova Scotia. Indeed a third son Gregory was born in Halifax, it was “all good”!
Never one to settle for long, circa 1955, Kate once again hit the road in a Ford convertible with her family, the destination - Toronto the good. Wallie joined the Dept. of Radiology at St Joseph’s Hospital, Toronto while Kate provided extraordinary support for the St Joseph’s Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, Toronto. Catherine and family resided in the Kingsway of west Toronto for many years. Following retirement Kae and Wallie moved to Oakville, Ontario.
Catherine’s family life was enriched by the many summer and autumn weekends spent on Lake Joseph, Muskoka.
Catherine Roy is survived by son and daughter-in-law Larry and Madeline (Oakville, Ontario), son Robert (Bend, Oregon) and son Gregory (Port Sandfield, Ontario). Later generations include grandchildren Andrea, Geoffrey, Elizabeth, Meredith, Zoe and Tosch and great-grandchildren Lauren, Luke, Charlie, Maggie and Alex. Catherine is preceded in death by her husband Wallace and her brother Eugene (Bud) Cronin.
The family gratefully acknowledges Catherine’s care providers Maria, Holly, Joe and Iris.
Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville, on Wednesday, November 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 47 Reynolds Street, Oakville, on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow.
