It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Catherine Hughes (née Quinn) on May 31,2023 at Greenway Retirement Home in Brampton.
Catherine was the beloved wife of 61 years to Kenneth (Kenny) and the loving mother of Stephen (Lori), Claire, Maureen (James), and Paul (Maralee).
Catherine loved being “Nanny” to her grandchildren, Emma, Kelsey, Connor, Ashlyn, Aidan, Rachel, and Gareth.
Born February 13th, 1938 in Rutherglen Scotland, Catherine enjoyed spending time with her sister Rosemary and brothers Drew and Joe. She married Kenny in 1961 and moved to Bramalea with their four children to join her siblings. Her parents Andrew and Rose Quinn soon followed.
Catherine loved her family and friends and never needed an excuse to have a party or celebration with a flower in her hair.
Catherine made a memorable impact on countless lives throughout her 30 + years teaching in Scotland, Clark Boulevard Public School in Bramalea, and St. Peters in Woodbridge. She made lifelong friends at each school.
Catherine and Kenny loved to travel to Ohio to see their grandchildren in sports, school plays and graduations. They also traveled around the world during their retirement and were active in the Brampton Choir. Catherine was most proud of her singing at Carnegie Hall in New York City and the Vatican in Rome.
The Family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Greenway for the love and care for Catherine over the years.
Visitation will take place on Monday, June 5th, 2023 at Ward Funeral Home, 52 Main Street South, Brampton, from 7:00pm - 9:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, June 6th, 2023 at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 940 North Park Drive, Brampton. Interment will take place as Assumption Cemetery, 6933 Tomken Road, Mississauga.
