The family announces with deep sadness that after a courageous battle with cancer, Carmela Storto died on Sunday, December 30th, 2012. Beloved wife of Joseph for 45 years. Loving mother of Claudia and her husband Phillip and Michelle and her husband Alfonso. Cherished Nonna of Adam, Daniel and Michael. Dear sister of Vincent and Maria. Carmela will also be fondly remembered by her extended family and many friends.
Carmela was born on February 5, 1945 to the late Angelo and Angela Piunno in Molise, Italy and moved to Canada in 1956. She was raised in Toronto and was married in 1967. Carmela had a lengthy career as a banker at the Royal Bank where she was recognized for many achievements, but more importantly, made many lifelong friends. She retired in 2005 and devoted her time to her family, enjoyed many trips, embraced her great love of nature and deepened her faith.
Friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home, 4671 Hwy 7 (west of Pine Valley Dr.), Woodbridge, on Thursday, from 3 – 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Margaret Mary Church, 8500 Islington Ave., Woodbridge, on Friday, January 4th, 2013 at 9:30am.
