Brian passed away at his home after living with respiratory illnesses for many years. Son of Agnes and Bernard Russell, Brian grew up in Toronto surrounded by three brothers. In his younger years Brian and his brothers made many memories going camping and playing sports. His days were filled from dawn to dusk going on adventures and making trouble with his brothers. In the mid 2000s Brian moved to Burlington and worked at the Salvation Army. He made Burlington home and made beautiful friendships becoming involved in community events and meals at St. Christopher’s and Wellington Square. Wherever Brian went, often walking from place to place, he had a smile and a friendly laugh to share. Despite his being quite private, Brian was the resident welcoming committee wherever he went and even if you didn’t know his name, you knew his presence. As his health deteriorated he began to open up a bit more and would occasionally ask for help. Together with help from the community Brian was able to fulfill a dream of living in his own apartment. Predeceased by his parents, Agnes and Bernard, brother, Bill, and step brother, Robert Delaney, Brian is survived by brothers Bruce (Brenda), Ernie, and step-brother Jack Delaney. Brian will be especially remembered by friends from St. Christopher’s Anglican Church, Wellington Square Friday Night Community, and just about anywhere Brian had his coffee.
A funeral service was held in Toronto on August 23. A memorial is scheduled for Thursday, August 30 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Christopher’s Anglican Church, 662 Guelph Line. Soup and Sandwich reception to follow. Contributions to the reception are gratefully appreciated.
