Kelly, William John “Bill”

Bill lived life as he planned it and passed away peacefully at Toronto General Hospital on October 23, 2011, exactly as he planned it… and only when he was good and ready. Devoted husband to the love of his life, the late Lorrienne Kelly nee Scarlett. Patriarch to a very diverse family, loving father and friend to Karen Jensen, mentor and “Mampa” to Ashley (Niko) and Anthon (Jessica), father and friend to his two “Portuguese sons” Tony Furtado (Maria) and Henry Furtado (Rosa) and their families. Father figure to our cherished Amalia Peralto and the proud honourary Irish member of our extended Longo family. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by many life long friends and those who’s hearts he touched along his journey. Bill had an extensive career at Canada Packers Ltd. He was one of the originals partners at Kelly’s Keg and Jester (Ontario Place). An investigator at the Ontario Ministry of Labour and involvement with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture. Never able to be motionless, Bill was involved in many entrepreneurial projects over the years as well as his “day job”. He completed his career path as the Corporate advisor to Longo Brothers until the day he died. Driven by bettering his community, Bill was always actively involved in many diverse projects. He was a founding board member of Sheridan College and North West General Hospital. He also was a long time board member of the Toronto Conservation Authority. All of his memberships and organizations are too numerous to mention. Bill faced many challenging medical issues over the past several years. He embraced his challenges with dignity and strength. Our family would personally like to thank his medical team, especially Dr.Gary Weinstein, Dr. Patrick Gullane, Dr. Douglas Ryan, and Dr. Jay Silverberg for treating Bill with respect and compassion. With all of your assistance, we had our beloved Bill for much longer than anticipated. Bill had a quality of life which he didn’t waste a minute of, right until the end. Family and Friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home “Brampton Chapel”, 52 Main Street South (Hwy 10), Brampton on Thursday, October 27, 2011 from 4-8 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 28, 2011 in the Ward Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Peel Children’s Aid Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
