Beryl Lambert

Lambert, Beryl Valentine (nee Way)
February 14, 1924 - February 23, 2016

Beryl, a resident of Holland Christian Homes, slipped away peacefully at Brampton Civic Hospital, shortly after her 92nd birthday, surrounded by the love of her family. She fought bravely and positively with the complications of diabetes over the last few years, but when she was no longer able to endure, her spirit was ready to let her go.

Beryl was predeceased by her parents, William and Ellen Way (Potter), her brother Billy (during WWII), her beloved son David (1983), her close friend and travel companion John Canning (1994), and her life-long treasured friend Geoffrey Sneezum (2015).

Loving mother to Christine (John Kentner), Ruth (Steve Thistle) and Elizabeth Dabor, daughter-in-law. Cherished grandma to Matthew (Angie), Kristin, Evan, Emily (Jason), Bill (Ali), Laura (Paul), Lisa (David), Christina (Matt), Lindsay (Nathan), and Alanna (Liam). Proud great-grandmother to Eirelyn, Jackson, Adam, Joanna, Madison, Malachi, Myles, Ava and Evelyn. She will also be missed by Allen and Kris Lambert, Jesi Garner and family.

Beryl, born and raised in Somerset England, had a strong faith background, a determination to make the best of everything, and a love of sports and knitting. After marrying, she immigrated to Canada in 1951. The United Church of Canada supported the family from day one, and she continued to worship, work and volunteer at United Churches in every city she lived. Her excellent secretarial skills provided her with many jobs, the last and longest being in the Registrar’s Office at Humber College. Her love of sports was evident in her enjoyment, participation and commitment to the Brampton Lawn Bowling Club for many years. She was also an avid card player, cherishing the friendships that developed. Beryl never stopped knitting, proudly supporting the ‘Toques for Orphans’ project at Holland Christian Homes in the last few years.

Beryl will be deeply missed by her extended family and many friends, both here and in England, and will be fondly remembered for her warm smile, generous heart and helping hands.

In lieu of flowers, as per Beryl’s request, donations to St. Paul’s United Church, Brampton, or The Lighthouse Centre, Toronto, would be greatly appreciated.

We are extremely grateful to the doctors and nurses on the ACE unit at Brampton Civic Hospital for the wonderful care and loving support given to us all.
