DUNCAN, Wm. Barry - Peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital in Toronto on June 6, 2012. Born in Kenora, ON October 21, 1936 to Wm. Wardlaw and Marjorie Duncan. He is survived by his wife Lynn, brother and sister-in-law Ronald and Barbara, nieces and nephews Judy, Sarah, Katie and William; Steve, Renée, Olivier and Simon; sister-in-law Joan (the late William Shorey), Caroline and Janet. Barry was an English teacher in Etobicoke, a consultant and a founding member of the School of Experiential Education, an alternative high school. An early student of Marshall MCLuhan, Barry founded the Association of Media Literacy for teachers of media literacy, for which he won numerous awards. A man of high principle and strong character, Barry was wise, witty and humorous; imaginative and resourceful; encouraging and patient; inspired and inspiring. Talented and articulate, yet also modest and shy, with a firm sense of proportion, he was the consummate teacher. One could rightly say of Barry that he was loved and admired by all who knew him but to which he would have responded, Let's not go overboard. An Ecumenical Service will be conducted by Fr. John Pungente SJ at St. Philip's Anglican Church in Weston on Monday, June 11, 2012 at 2 p.m. Burial private. A reception will follow at nearby SEE school.
