Anton Ilchyna

Anton (Tony) Ilchyna passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026, at Etobicoke General Hospital, in his 97th year.

Tony grew up in a large and musical family on a farm in Anola, Manitoba, and carried the strong work ethic of a farmer with him throughout his life. He was especially proud of the vegetable garden he grew in his backyard every year. He was predeceased by his siblings Albert, Stephie, and Donald, and will be missed by his siblings Peter, Albena, Joyce, and Gerry.

Tony met his wife, Eileen, at a dance when he offered to fix her toaster. They were married for 55 years, until her passing in 2016. Together, Tony and Eileen had two sons, Rick and Ron. They enjoyed their summers travelling throughout Canada and the US in their station wagon and staying at KOA campgrounds along the way. In 1969 Tony bought property on Amherst Island. For years the family spent weekends clearing the land, hauling materials to the island, erecting buildings, and finally a cottage that was treasured by Tony and is still cherished by the family.

When Rick married Sylva, the family grew to include two grandsons, Jarrett and Keegan, who brought Tony great joy and pride.

Tony was a proud Millwright and a member of his union for more than 60 years. He always said that becoming a Millwright was the best choice he ever made.

Tony was a talented harmonica and guitar player. Music was an important part of his life, and when he wasn’t playing in the band, he could often be found on the dance floor, happily dancing a polka.

Tony will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
