Annis “Ann” Peel (nee Harland), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to all who knew her, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the age of 88.
Born May 19th, 1938, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Ann was the daughter of James and Frances Harland (nee Tipping). At the age of 21, her mom sent her to Canada to watch out for her older sisters, Rita and Lil, who had already moved across the pond. She eventually met her husband, Dave, and for 49 years together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and endless Sunday afternoon drives.
Ann was an avid fan of 5-pin bowling, Monday nights at the Bingo Hall with her friend Gloria and often other Peel family members, and drives up to “Rama”, where she and Dave would enjoy the casino and the shows. For years, Ann was the “Voice of The Bay” as you could hear her over the PA system day in and day out. Ann was also the biggest fan of her girls - she put in her best effort to watch them play softball but was always too nervous to watch when they were in the game.
She is survived by her children, Julie Elizabeth Barnharst (Rob), and Kelly Ann Bock (Dave); grandchildren Riley Minnema (Chad), Christian Barnharst (Tatiyana Byrd), Anderson Bock, Katelyn Bock, Jenna Bock; great-grandson Richard “Richie” Minnema; siblings Mary Ann “May” Laird & Kathleen “Kate” McCrea (Rab); sister-in-law Mary Peel, and brother-in-law Stephen Peel (Deborah). She was preceded in death by her husband Robert David “Dave” Peel, parents James and Frances Harland, brothers Frederick “Bertie” Harland, William “Bill” Harland (Mary), James “Jim” Harland (Barbara), John “Jack” Harland (Ida), Robert “Bobbie” Harland (Rose), Francis “Frank” Harland (Jean), sisters Elizabeth Harland, Elizabeth Orr “Lil” Cochrane (Eric), Margaret “Rita” Collins (Bill), Pauline Reed (Gordon), brothers-in-law John Peel (Dorothy Ann), Michael “Mike” Peel, and sister-in-law Grayce Peel.
A special thank you to “The Mary’s” - sister-in-law Mary Peel, and friend Mary McCullough for all the love and visits over the years, a big thank you to Bob and Janis Peel for everything you have done for your Aunt Ann, and a sincere thank you to all the loving staff at Faith Manor.
A memorial service and celebration of Ann’s life will be announced and held at a later date.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, or Holland Christian Homes – Faith Manor.
